'Ausgleich' more often means a practical or financial solution that compensates for a disadvantage or balances out a difference. 'Aussöhnung' means that people, groups, or countries make peace again and their relationship improves. Learners may confuse the words because an 'Ausgleich' can help with an 'Aussöhnung'. But an 'Ausgleich' is not automatically peace between people. If the relationship is the focus, 'Aussöhnung' fits better. If it is about an arrangement, payment, or fair solution, 'Ausgleich' fits better.
