The restoration of a peaceful and friendly relationship between people or groups after an argument or conflict.

'Die Versöhnung' (reconciliation) is the noun corresponding to the verb 'versöhnen' (to reconcile). The ending '-ung' is a very common way to form a feminine noun from a verb, describing the process or result of the action.

After the argument, the two friends wanted to reconcile again.

'der Frieden' and 'die Versöhnung' can both describe a good situation after an argument or conflict. 'Frieden' is the state without argument or war. 'Versöhnung' is more the step toward that state: people or groups grow closer again after a conflict and become friendlier with each other. So you can have peace without real reconciliation, for example when no one is arguing anymore but everyone is still hurt. The words are easily confused because reconciliation often leads to peace.
