'Bahnstation' sounds more general and is more suitable for a smaller stop, or when you simply mean the stop along the line. The words can be confused because both are connected to train travel. As a practical rule: for most places, you can simply say 'Bahnhof'; 'Bahnstation' is more precise when you are talking about a small or rather simple stop.
