It fits situations, systems, feelings, and also objects. 'die Balance' is used adjectivally here very rarely and means more that someone is internally or externally in balance. In normal German, people usually say 'in Balance' (in balance) or 'ausgeglichen' (balanced). That is why 'stabil' is much more natural when describing a secure state in general.
