construction kit
A set of building blocks or other parts that can be used to assemble various things, especially as a toy. The container that holds the parts is also called a „Baukasten“ (construction kit).

modular system
A system of predefined elements that can be combined in different ways to create different solutions as needed. Such systems exist, for example, for technical products or computer programs.
