'Beruhigend' (calming/reassuring) is the present participle of the verb 'beruhigen' (to calm/reassure). It describes something that actively has a calming effect on someone or something, in other words something that 'ruhig macht' (makes calm).
Ihre ruhige Art zu sprechen ist sehr beruhigend.
Her calm way of speaking is very reassuring.
The construction 'Es ist beruhigend, zu' + infinitive is especially common. It is used to express that a piece of information or knowledge takes away worries.
Es ist beruhigend zu hören, dass es allen gut geht.
It is reassuring to hear that everyone is doing well.
When referring to a relaxing effect, 'beruhigend' is often combined with these nouns: 'eine beruhigende Stimme' (a calming voice), 'beruhigende Musik' (calming music), 'ein beruhigender Tee' (a calming tea), or 'eine beruhigende Atmosphäre' (a calming atmosphere).
Vor dem Einschlafen höre ich gerne beruhigende Musik.

quiet / calm
'ruhig' and 'beruhigend' are closely related, but they do not describe the same thing. 'ruhig' describes the state of a person or situation: someone is not nervous or agitated. 'beruhigend' describes the effect of something: a voice, message, or explanation makes others calmer. Learners may confuse the words because both have to do with calm. The direction is important: a person is 'ruhig'. Something is 'beruhigend' when it gives calm or reduces worries.
Die Nachricht vom Arzt ist beruhigend, weil alles in Ordnung ist.
The news from the doctor is reassuring because everything is okay.
Nach dem Gespräch ist Tom wieder ruhig.
