'die Kommission' is a normal German noun and can mean an official body, a sales commission, or selling something 'in Kommission' (on consignment). 'Commission', on the other hand, is a very rare Anglicism and appears before a noun, for example in art or commissioned work. The risk of confusion mainly comes from the similar spelling. In normal German texts, 'die Kommission' is almost always what is meant. 'Commission' sounds English and only fits in special scenes or technical contexts.
