'die Diskussion' and 'die Dialektik' both have to do with arguments and conversations. A 'Diskussion' is a conversation in which different opinions on a topic are exchanged. 'Dialektik' is much more specific: it is about the art of arguing or a philosophical method. In everyday language, people usually say 'Diskussion'. 'Dialektik' sounds more educated or technical and fits better in philosophy, politics, or when referring to a very deliberate way of arguing. The words can be confused because in both cases opinions meet one another. But a discussion is the conversation itself, while dialectics describes more of a method or ability in arguing.
