Du hast im Lotto gewonnen? Ich glaub, mich knutscht ein Elch!
You won the lottery? Well, I'll be!

Elch vs Hirsch
stag / idiot
'der Hirsch' and 'der Elch' can be confused because both are large animals from the deer family and can have antlers. In the narrower sense, 'Hirsch' usually means a male red deer and has branched antlers. An 'Elch' is much larger and often has broad, shovel-shaped antlers. Moose are also more strongly associated with northern forests. So if you mean only a large forest animal with antlers, you should pay close attention to its size and the shape of its antlers.

In Schweden stand plötzlich ein Elch am Straßenrand.
In Sweden, a moose suddenly appeared by the side of the road.

Im Wildpark konnten die Kinder einen Hirsch aus der Nähe sehen.
