entdecken vs finden

to find

'finden' and 'entdecken' can both mean that you see or notice something that was not there before or was not known before. 'finden' is more general and works well when you have searched for something or come across it again by chance. 'entdecken' puts more emphasis on something being new, hidden, or surprising. That is why 'entdecken' sounds more natural with an unknown place, an error, a secret, or something interesting. Learners can easily confuse the words because in both cases you end up noticing something. If only the result is important, 'finden' often fits; if the new or surprising aspect is important, 'entdecken' is usually better.
