'Gegenüberliegend' is almost always used as an adjective directly before a noun. Using it alone at the end of a sentence is grammatically possible, but very rare and often sounds unnatural.

Learners may confuse the words because both places can be close. The key is the position: next to you is 'benachbart'; on the other side is 'gegenüberliegend'.
