'der Hinweis' and 'der Geheimtipp' can both be a helpful piece of information. A 'Hinweis' helps you understand something, find something, or solve a problem. It can be neutral, official, or very practical. A 'Geheimtipp', on the other hand, is a recommendation for something good that not many people know about yet, for example a restaurant, a shop, or a place. Learners may confuse the words because both can feel like a tip. But 'Hinweis' is much more general; 'Geheimtipp' sounds more personal and positive.
