Gerichtsbarkeit vs Justiz

Justiz is the state justice system and its institutions, including courts and public prosecutors' offices. Gerichtsbarkeit, by contrast, refers primarily to the legal authority or jurisdiction to administer justice. When referring to the state apparatus, Justiz is more common; for questions of jurisdiction, Gerichtsbarkeit is the appropriate word.
