Gratulation vs Anerkennung
recognition
'Anerkennung' and 'Gratulation' can both occur after a success, but they do not mean the same thing. 'Anerkennung' means respect or praise for an achievement. It can also be shown long after a piece of work, or without any celebration at all. 'Gratulation' is a congratulation on a specific occasion, for example a birthday, a wedding, or passing a test. Learners may confuse the words because after a success you often receive both: a 'Gratulation' for the event and 'Anerkennung' for the achievement.

Nach dem gewonnenen Spiel nahm die Mannschaft viele Gratulationen entgegen.
After winning the game, the team received many congratulations.
Anerkennung
Für die gute Vorbereitung erhielt Lena viel Anerkennung von ihren Kollegen.
