Green
A person who belongs to or supports a party in the Green political movement. These parties focus particularly on environmental and climate protection.

cop
A colloquial, now outdated term for a police officer wearing a green uniform. This term is used especially in the plural.

When the cops pulled up in their patrol car, the burglars ran away.
Words such as 'Koalition' (coalition), 'Wahl' (election), and 'Parlament' (parliament) point to the political meaning. In older stories, words such as 'Uniform' (uniform), 'Streifenwagen' (patrol car), or 'Verhaftung' (arrest) can indicate that 'den Grünen' (the cops) refers to police officers.
Die Grünen verhandeln nach der Wahl über eine Koalition.
The Greens are negotiating a coalition after the election.
In der alten Kriminalgeschichte nehmen die Grünen den Dieb fest.
In the old crime story, the cops arrest the thief.
Common expressions include 'ein überzeugter Grüner' (a committed Green), 'führende Grüne' (leading Greens), and 'die Grünen wählen' (to vote for the Greens). These can refer to political convictions, important figures within the party, or a voting choice.
Als überzeugter Grüner setzt er sich auch in seiner Gemeinde für den Klimaschutz ein.
As a committed Green, he also works to protect the climate in his local community.
The phrase 'bei den Grünen' (in the Green Party) often describes membership or involvement in the party. 'Für die Grünen kandidieren' (to stand as a candidate for the Greens) means to run for election as a representative of the party; 'für' takes the accusative.
Er ist seit zehn Jahren bei den Grünen aktiv.
He has been active in the Green Party for ten years.
Bei der nächsten Kommunalwahl kandidiert er für die Grünen.
He is standing as a candidate for the Greens in the next local election.
