Hausfriedensbruch vs Einbruch

break-in / onset

'der Einbruch' and 'der Hausfriedensbruch' both have to do with unauthorized entry into someone else's space. However, 'Einbruch' means that someone forcibly enters a building, usually in order to steal something. 'Hausfriedensbruch' (trespass) is more legal and broader: someone enters a home, a shop, or protected property without permission, or remains there against the will of the person entitled to control access. Nothing has to be stolen, and force does not always have to be involved. The words can be confused because both can be criminal offenses. For theft after forced entry, 'Einbruch' fits; for unauthorized entering or staying, 'Hausfriedensbruch' fits.
