A device that gives off heat into a room in order to heat it. It is usually made of metal and is operated with hot water or electricity.

To describe a position in relation to the radiator, the preposition 'an' is often used. Something hangs 'am Heizkörper' (on/at the radiator, dative), or you lean 'an den Heizkörper' (against the radiator, accusative).

Die Heizung refers to the system or device that heats a room or building. Der Heizkörper is only the individual component in the room that gives off heat. In the event of a malfunction, it is therefore important to distinguish whether the entire system or only this component is affected.
Der Heizkörper im Schlafzimmer bleibt kalt, während die anderen Räume warm werden.
The radiator in the bedroom stays cold while the other rooms are warm.
Die Heizung des Hauses ist ausgefallen, deshalb bleiben alle Räume kalt.
