Special declension
Although 'der Hindu' (the Hindu) is a masculine noun for a person, it is usually not declined in the singular. As a rule, it keeps the form 'Hindu' in all cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative).
EXAMPLE
Ich habe gestern mit einem Hindu über seine Religion gesprochen.
Yesterday I spoke with a Hindu about his religion.
Word family
The word 'Hindu' belongs to a word family that you should know. The religion is called 'der Hinduismus' (Hinduism), and the corresponding adjective is 'hinduistisch' (Hindu).

'Inder' and 'Hindu' can be confused because Hinduism originated in India. But they do not mean the same thing. An 'Inder' is a man from India or someone with Indian citizenship. Colloquially, 'der Inder' can also mean an Indian restaurant. A 'Hindu' is a follower of Hinduism, meaning a religion. Not every Indian man is Hindu, and not every Hindu lives in India. When it is about origin or nationality, 'Inder' fits. When it is about religion, 'Hindu' fits.
