Intelligence vs Aufklärung
clarification / Enlightenment
'die Aufklärung' and 'die Intelligence' can both have to do with gathering important information. In a military context, 'Aufklärung' is the reconnaissance of an area or opponent so that one has more information. 'Intelligence' is an Anglicism and more often means the organized gathering and analysis of secret information, often by intelligence services or for politics and security. The words can be confused because both concern information for security or the military. In German, 'Aufklärung' sounds more general and also military; 'Intelligence' sounds more specialized, more technical, and more strongly connected to intelligence services.
