An organization, association, or group that represents the shared interests of its members to politics, business, or the public.
Die Gewerkschaft ist eine mächtige Interessenvertretung für Arbeitnehmer.

The word consists of 'Interessen' (plural of 'das Interesse') and 'die Vertretung' (representation). The 's' in between is a linking element. Literally, it therefore means 'the representation of interests'.

A 'Verband' is usually the concrete organization with members, for example a professional association. 'Interessenvertretung' says more strongly what this organization does: it advocates for the interests of a group. The word can also mean the activity itself, not just the organization. If you mean the structure or name of an organization, 'Verband' often fits. If you want to emphasize that someone speaks for a group and represents its goals, 'Interessenvertretung' is more precise.
