intervenieren vs behandeln

to treat / to deal with

'behandeln' and 'intervenieren' can both have to do with taking active action in a difficult situation, especially in medicine. However, 'behandeln' is broader: a doctor treats an illness, or someone treats a person in a particular way. 'intervenieren' more strongly means that you intervene in a development, a conflict, or, in medical contexts, a condition in order to change something. The word often sounds more technical or official. The words are easy to confuse because a medical intervention can be part of treatment. But not every treatment is an intervention.
