Name with an article
'Irak' (Iraq) is usually used with the definite article in ordinary sentences. The article is also used when the country name is the subject.
EXAMPLE

Destination and location
For travel to Iraq, use 'in den Irak' (to Iraq) with the accusative. For a stay there, use 'im Irak' (in Iraq) with the dative.

Expressing origin
Origin is expressed with 'aus dem Irak' (from Iraq). The preposition 'aus' (from) takes the dative; the article is retained.
