economic climate
The general economic situation and its development in a country or region.
Die aktuelle Konjunktur ist von Unsicherheit geprägt.
The current economic climate is marked by uncertainty.

'Konjunktur' (economic climate/boom) is a base word for many terms from economics. Important examples are 'Hochkonjunktur' (boom), 'Konjunkturflaute' (recession), or 'Konjunkturpaket' (measures to strengthen the economy, stimulus package).
Die Regierung hat ein neues Konjunkturpaket vorgestellt.

Although 'Konjunktur' (economic climate/boom) is a technical term from economics, it is used very often in the news and in everyday conversations about politics and society.
Die Entwicklung der Konjunktur ist ein wichtiges Thema im Wahlkampf.
The development of the economic climate is an important issue in the election campaign.
In connection with the general economic situation, the verbs 'die Konjunktur ankurbeln' (to stimulate the economy), 'stützen' (to support), or 'abkühlen' (to slow down/cool down) are often used.
Die niedrigen Zinsen sollen die Konjunktur ankurbeln.
The low interest rates are meant to stimulate the economy.
The expression 'etwas hat Konjunktur' or 'etwas hat Hochkonjunktur' is often used figuratively. It then means that something is currently very popular, fashionable, or in demand.
Bioprodukte haben seit Jahren Konjunktur.
Organic products have been in demand for years.
upswing / upturn
'Aufschwung' and 'Konjunktur' both belong to the language of economics. 'Konjunktur' generally means the economic climate and how it is developing: it can be good, bad, strong, or weak. In some contexts, 'Konjunktur' also means a good phase, so it is similar to an upturn. 'Aufschwung', however, is more clearly positive and directly describes an upward movement. Learners may confuse the words because both appear when the economy is doing well. If you only want to say that the economy is improving, 'Aufschwung' is more precise. If you are talking about the general economic climate, 'Konjunktur' fits better.

Die Firma stellt weniger Leute ein, weil die Konjunktur im Moment unsicher ist.
The company is hiring fewer people because the economic climate is uncertain at the moment.
Nach der Krise brachte der Aufschwung vielen Betrieben neue Kunden.
After the crisis, the upturn brought many businesses new customers.
