Korpus vs Körper

body

'der Körper' and 'der Korpus' can both mean the main part of something. However, 'Körper' is the normal word for the body of a person or animal and can also generally mean a spatial object. 'Korpus' is used more for the main part of an object, for example a piece of furniture, an instrument, or an organ. The words can be confused because 'Korpus' sometimes seems like a more technical form of 'Körper'. In everyday language, with living beings you almost always say 'Körper'. With objects, 'Korpus' can sound more precise, especially when you mean the main body without doors, legs, or attachments.
