'Kulturpolitik' (cultural policy) follows a very productive pattern in German: many policy areas are named by forming a compound with '-politik' (policy). If you know this pattern, you immediately understand words like 'Wirtschaftspolitik' (economic policy), 'Sozialpolitik' (social policy), or 'Umweltpolitik' (environmental policy).

The funding of theaters is a task of cultural policy.
Common verbs in connection with cultural policy are 'gestalten' (to shape), 'fördern' (to promote), or 'betreiben' (to pursue/conduct). It is often specified more precisely with adjectives such as 'kommunal' (municipal), 'regional' (regional), or 'national' (national).
