“LED” often appears as the first component in hyphenated compounds, such as “LED-Lampe” (LED lamp) or “LED-Streifen” (LED strip). These words refer to products in which LEDs are used as the light source.
In einem LED-Streifen sind viele kleine LEDs nebeneinander angeordnet.
An LED strip contains many small LEDs arranged next to one another.
For indicators on devices, “eine LED leuchtet” (an LED is lit), “eine LED blinkt” (an LED is flashing), and “eine LED erlischt” (an LED goes out) are typical phrases. Pay attention to these verbs in user manuals, as they describe different light signals.
Während der Akku geladen wird, blinkt die rote LED.
The red LED flashes while the battery is charging.
To describe a device’s features, the pattern “mit LEDs ausgestattet sein” (to be equipped with LEDs) is often used. The dative follows “mit”.
Die Taschenlampe ist mit drei hellen LEDs ausgestattet.
The flashlight is equipped with three bright LEDs.
