Usage tips
Correct preposition
The liquid in which a substance is soluble is named using „in“ and the dative case. The pattern is „in etwas löslich sein“ (to be soluble in something).
EXAMPLE
Dieser Stoff ist in kaltem Wasser nicht löslich.
This substance is not soluble in cold water.
Typical collocations
Common collocations are „gut löslich“ (highly soluble), „leicht löslich“ (readily soluble), and „schwer löslich“ (sparingly soluble). „Schwer löslich“ does not mean that the substance cannot dissolve at all.
EXAMPLE
Das Pulver ist in Wasser nur schwer löslich.
The powder is only sparingly soluble in water.

On packaging, you will find the fixed expression „löslicher Kaffee“ (instant coffee). This coffee is prepared directly with water without being filtered.
