When talking about sightings, people often say 'einen Maikäfer entdecken' (to spot a cockchafer), 'einen Maikäfer sehen' (to see a cockchafer), or 'einen Maikäfer finden' (to find a cockchafer). The phrase 'ein Maikäfer im Garten' (a cockchafer in the garden) is also common.

In the evening, we found a cockchafer in the garden.
'Maikäfer' (cockchafer) also appears in the well-known traditional children's song 'Maikäfer flieg' (Fly, Cockchafer, Fly). This means the word may come up in conversations about children's songs, childhood, or folk culture.
