'Loslösen' (to detach/break away) is a separable verb. The prefix 'los' separates from the verb stem in a main clause and goes to the end of the sentence. In the infinitive with 'zu', 'zu' goes between 'los' and 'lösen'.
Er löste den Knoten langsam los.
He slowly loosened the knot.
In almost all meanings, the separation is expressed with the preposition 'von' (+ dative). You detach something or yourself 'von' (from) something else.
Ich konnte den Aufkleber nicht vom Buch loslösen.
I couldn't detach the sticker from the book.
Especially in the abstract meanings, the verb is used reflexively: 'sich loslösen' (to break away/detach oneself). This emphasizes that the person is actively carrying out the process of separation or independence themselves.
Es fällt ihm schwer, sich von seiner Vergangenheit loszulösen.
He finds it difficult to break away from his past.

'lösen' and 'loslösen' can both mean that something is no longer firmly connected to something else. 'lösen' is more general and fits opening, loosening, or removing something, for example with a knot or a screw. 'loslösen' puts stronger emphasis on separating from something you were previously firmly attached to or belonged to. It can be meant physically, but also emotionally or socially: you 'löst sich von einer Gruppe oder Idee los' (break away from a group or idea). The words are easy to confuse because both express separation. 'loslösen' often sounds stronger and more final.

Nach vielen Jahren wollte sie sich von den Erwartungen ihrer Familie loslösen.

Vor der Reise löse ich den Fahrradträger vom Auto.
Before the trip, I detach the bike rack from the car.
