lyrisch vs literarisch

literary

'literarisch' and 'lyrisch' can both have to do with poetry and artful language. 'Literarisch' is broader: it refers generally to literature or to an elevated, artful style of writing. 'Lyrisch' is narrower and mainly means poems or a very emotional, poetic style. So a text can be literary without being lyrical, for example a novel or an essay. The words can be confused when you simply want to say that something is beautifully or sophisticatedly written. In that case, 'literarisch' is often more general; 'lyrisch' fits especially with poems, moods, and feelings.
