'der Künstler' and 'der Musiker' can both refer to people who work creatively. But 'der Künstler' is broader: the person may paint, write, make music, or create other kinds of art. 'der Musiker' is more specific and means a person who makes music, for example by singing or playing an instrument. The words can be confused because many musicians are also artists. But when it is specifically about music, 'Musiker' is more natural and more precise.
