neulich vs gerade

right now / straight

'gerade' and 'neulich' can both be close to the present in terms of time, but they refer to different points in time. 'gerade' means right now, at this moment. 'neulich' means an unspecified point in the recent past, often a few days or weeks ago. With 'neulich', the action is therefore already over and no longer current at this moment. The words can be confused because both are not far away from today. Remember: 'gerade' is now; 'neulich' is sometime recently.
