A sweet mixture made mainly from sugar, roasted nuts (such as almonds or hazelnuts), and often also beaten egg whites or cocoa butter. Nougat is eaten as a filling for pralines, in chocolate, or as a sweet in its own right.

Since 'Nougat' (nougat) is a loanword from French, it is also pronounced in the French way. The 't' at the end is silent, and the stress is on the second syllable: [nuˈɡaː].
