The area where a town or village begins and where you drive into it. In Germany, this is often marked by a yellow sign, the town sign.

'Ortseingang' and 'Ortsausgang' both refer to places at the edge of a town or village. But they are opposites. At the 'Ortseingang', you drive or come into the place. At the 'Ortsausgang', you leave the place again. The words can be confused because they look very similar and both are important in road traffic. Pay attention to the direction: going in is 'Ortseingang', going out is 'Ortsausgang'.
