False friend
The German noun 'der Park' (park) refers to a place. It is not the verb for the action of leaving a car somewhere. The corresponding German verb is 'parken' (to park).
EXAMPLE
Ich parke mein Auto immer in der Nähe vom Stadtpark.
I always park my car near the city park.
Important prepositions
When indicating location, the case is crucial: You go 'in den Park' (into the park; direction, accusative), but you are already 'im Park' (in the park; location, dative).

Compound words
In the meaning 'defined area', 'Park' (park) is almost always used as part of a compound word. These words describe the purpose of the area.

'der Garten' and 'der Park' are both green places with plants. A 'Garten' often belongs to a house and is more private. People plant flowers, vegetables, or fruit there. A 'Park' is usually public and larger. People go there to walk, sit, or relax. The words can be confused because both can be green spaces. In some proper names, 'Garten' can also mean a public park. In everyday use, however, the rule is: private and by a house is usually 'Garten'; public and in the city is usually 'Park'.
