To owe each other nothing anymore because a debt has been paid or an exchange has been evened out. Also used figuratively when an injustice has been balanced out through a counteraction.

to be rid of someone or something
To be free of an unpleasant person or thing; to have gotten rid of someone or something.
Nach der letzten Rate war sie endlich alle Schulden quitt.
After the final installment, she was finally rid of all her debts.

In these meanings, 'quitt' (quits) is almost always used predicatively with 'sein' (to be). Typical patterns are 'mit jemandem quitt sein' (to be quits with someone) and 'jemanden oder etwas quitt sein' (to be rid of someone or something); in this usage, the adjective is generally not used before a noun.
Nach der Rückzahlung sind wir endlich quitt.
After the repayment, we were finally quits.
For an exchange that has been evened out, 'mit jemandem quitt sein' (to be quits with someone) or simply 'wir sind quitt' (we're quits) is often used. The subject can be a single person or a group.
Nachdem ich ihr beim Umzug geholfen hatte, lud sie mich zum Essen ein, und danach waren wir quitt.
After I helped her move, she invited me to dinner, and after that we were quits.
In the meaning 'befreit sein' (to be free of something), 'quitt' (rid of) is often used with unpleasant people, situations, or obligations. Expressions such as 'endlich' (finally) or 'jetzt' (now) are especially common in these sentences.
Nach dem Ende des Projekts war sie die ständigen Überstunden endlich quitt.
After the project ended, she was finally rid of the constant overtime.
