extremism
'der Extremismus' and 'die Radikalisierung' both have to do with very extreme political, religious, or ideological views. The important difference is: 'Extremismus' describes more the attitude or direction itself. 'Radikalisierung' describes the process in which someone develops increasingly extreme views. The words can be confused because both often appear in the same topic area. In practice, this helps: extremism is the state or ideology, while radicalization is the development toward it.
