'suchen' and 'recherchieren' can both mean that you want to find information. But 'suchen' is much more general and also fits lost things, apartments, or simple answers. 'recherchieren' is used when you systematically collect and check information on a topic, for example for an article, a paper, or a report. The words can be confused because when you research, you also search. 'recherchieren' is more natural when it is about thorough information work; 'suchen' fits better for a simple or everyday search.
