suchen vs finden

to find

'suchen' and 'finden' often belong to the same situation, but they show two different steps. 'suchen' means that you are trying to get or discover something because you do not have it yet or do not know where it is. 'finden' means that you discover it in the end or by chance. You can search for a long time and find nothing. With abstract things, it is similar: you search for an answer and may find a solution. Learners easily confuse the words because they often occur together. A practical tip: 'suchen' is the attempt; 'finden' is the result.
