Reich government
The government of the German Reich. The term is used for the governments of various historical periods, especially the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933), and the period of National Socialism (1933–1945).

'die Regierung' and 'die Reichsregierung' can both mean the political leadership of a state. 'die Regierung' is the normal general word. 'die Reichsregierung', on the other hand, is a historical term for the government of the German Reich. For that reason, 'Reichsregierung' is not suitable for present-day governments and not for every country either. The words can be confused because 'Reichsregierung' sounds like a special type of government. In current political topics, you almost always use 'Regierung'; 'Reichsregierung' is needed mainly in history lessons or historical texts.
