reinlassen vs zulassen

to allow / admit / keep closed

'zulassen' and 'reinlassen' can both mean that someone is allowed to go somewhere. 'reinlassen' is concrete: a person or animal is allowed to enter a room, a house, or a site. It sounds everyday and has to do with a place. 'zulassen' is more general and often more official. You can allow people, applicants, or certain actions. The words are easy to confuse when entry is involved. For a door or entrance, 'reinlassen' is usually the better fit; for permission or a rule, 'zulassen' is more likely.
