A rare term adopted from English for the possibility of harm, loss, or another negative consequence; a venture or gamble. It corresponds to the more common German word 'das Risiko' (risk) and is used mainly in finance and management jargon.

'die Sicherheit' and 'der Risk' are opposites. 'die Sicherheit' means a state in which you are protected from danger or harm. 'der Risk' means the possibility that damage or loss may occur. The word 'Risk' is rare and appears mainly in specialist language from finance or management; in normal German, people usually say 'das Risiko'. In terms of meaning: the greater the Risk, the lower the Sicherheit.
