Colloquial language
'Simsen' (to text) is mainly colloquial and is especially suitable for private, informal situations. In formal texts, the word often sounds too casual.

Dative for the recipient
The person who receives the message is in the dative: Man simst jemandem (You text someone).

Giving the message
