'zunehmend' and 'steigend' both describe that something is becoming more or higher. 'zunehmend' is more general and works well for intensity, frequency, or a feeling, for example 'zunehmend nervös' (increasingly nervous). 'steigend' is especially good for numbers, prices, values, or a level—in other words, things you can imagine as a line moving upward. The words can be confused because both describe an upward development. If you mean a general change, often use 'zunehmend'. If it is about measurable values such as costs, temperatures, or numbers, 'steigend' is often more precise.
