A characteristic way of expression or design in areas such as art, music, literature, or architecture that is typical of a particular era, group, or movement.

A formative direction in art can be a Schule or a Stilrichtung. Schule suggests more of a connected group, a shared tradition, or a teaching, while Stilrichtung only describes typical features of the design or style. Choose Schule when referring to a group, and Stilrichtung when referring to the form being described.
