'Kontrolle' and 'Supervision' can both mean that someone watches over something and checks whether the work is going well. However, 'Kontrolle' is much more general: you can check an ID, an invoice, a machine, or even your own behavior. It can also mean that someone has power over something. 'Supervision' is used mainly in professional contexts, especially when professionals discuss their work with a trained person and learn from it. In the general meaning of oversight, 'Supervision' often sounds more technical or foreign in German; 'Kontrolle', 'Aufsicht' (supervision/oversight), or 'Leitung' (management/leadership) are usually more natural then. The words can be confused because both have to do with checking and guidance. As a practical rule: for a normal check, you would tend to say 'Kontrolle'; for professional counseling and reflection, 'Supervision' is more likely.
