Suppe vs super

super

'super' and 'die Suppe' can both be meant as a positive evaluation in very informal situations. The important difference is: 'super' is normal, understandable, and very common in colloquial language. 'die Suppe' as an evaluation meaning 'great' is very rare and not standard German. Learners may confuse the words because of their similar form, but in normal German you should almost always say 'super' for 'very good'. 'die Suppe' is normally understood first as food, not as praise.
