Trust vs Stiftung
foundation
'die Stiftung' and 'der Trust' can both have to do with assets that are managed for a specific purpose. Even so, they are not the same thing in German. A 'Stiftung' is an organization that usually uses its assets to pursue charitable, cultural, or scientific goals. A 'Trust' is primarily a legal arrangement from Anglo-American law, in which a trustee manages assets for others. The risk of confusion arises especially through English texts, because 'trust' can seem similar there in some cases. In a normal German context, people usually say 'Stiftung' for nonprofit organizations, not 'Trust'.

Der Trust verwaltet das Vermögen der Familie nach englischem Recht.
The trust manages the family's assets under English law.
