'der Balkon' and 'die Veranda' both belong to a house or apartment and are open outdoor areas. A 'Balkon' is usually attached higher up on the outside of a building and often belongs to an apartment. You enter it through a door from the apartment. A 'Veranda' is more like an attached, covered porch on a house, often on the ground floor. Learners may confuse the words because you can sit outside on both. A practical tip: for an apartment on an upper floor, you usually say 'Balkon'; for a covered area directly attached to a house, 'Veranda' is more likely.
