To deliberately keep a piece of information, a fact, or an object secret from someone and not reveal it.

The verb 'verheimlichen' (to conceal) is inseparable. The prefix 'ver-' remains firmly attached to the stem 'heimlich' in all sentence forms and cannot stand at the end of the sentence.
Sie hat ihm die Wahrheit verheimlicht.
She concealed the truth from him.
This verb is often used with two objects: the person from whom something is being kept secret is in the dative, and the secret information is in the accusative. Alternatively, the person can also be added with 'vor + dative' (from/in front of + dative).
Er verheimlichte seiner Familie seine Schulden.
He concealed his debts from his family.
'verheimlichen' (to conceal) is often used with abstract things that someone wants to keep secret. Typical combinations are: 'die Wahrheit verheimlichen' (to conceal the truth), 'ein Geheimnis verheimlichen' (to conceal a secret), 'seine Gefühle verheimlichen' (to conceal one's feelings), or 'eine Krankheit verheimlichen' (to conceal an illness).

Both words can mean deliberately hiding something from other people. „Verstecken“ is used especially when an object is placed out of sight, but it can also mean keeping feelings or information secret. „Verheimlichen“ places greater emphasis on not disclosing a fact, possession, or piece of information.
Sie verheimlichte ihrer Familie, dass sie die wichtige Akte schon erhalten hatte.
She concealed from her family that she had already received the important file.
Er versteckte die wichtige Akte in einer Schublade, damit seine Kollegin sie nicht sofort fand.
He hid the important file in a drawer so that his colleague would not find it right away.
